Vitruvius: Encouraging a new look at Utopian Visions

Nancy Victor is pleased to present Vitruvius, a group show by Natasha Caleia Ramos, Sam Shendi and James Winter. This exhibition encourages a new look at the cityscape and utopian visions with artwork full of vibrant energy and intensity. The exhibition runs from Friday 3 May - Friday 24 May 2013, monday - friday 10-6pm.

In this show the city manifests itself in many guises. With media ranging from a site specific light installation to steel thematic figurative forms, it offers a direct and honest approach by merging fresh ideas with older processes.

The Mime, Sam Shendi

Natasha Caleia Ramos
Natasha Caleia Ramos questions ideas of control. She asks why the 'white-walled gallery' has become central to our understanding of contemporary art. Caleia Ramos uses photography, printmaking and readymade objects to create new ways of viewing, an influence that is indebted to a passion for Russian Constructivist Art. Her works are imbued with the political questions of our age. Caleia Ramos lives and works in London.

Sam Shendi
Sam Shendi's dynamic and brightly coloured sculptures seem impervious to gravity. Form and colour vie for our attention in Shendi's brave new glistening world. Sympathetic to radical urban architecture they simultaneously explore the human figure in all its delicacy and strength. His native country, Egypt, is clearly visible in the work. Simplified geometric forms come together through a hidden symbolism with obelisks, sun-balls and the pyramid animated in bright primary colours. Shendi won the First@108 Public Art Award 2013 and has exhibited widely in London. He works between Yorkshire and London.

James Winter
James Winter's installations are an exploration of space, light, form and structure. Winter examines how the city and the urban environment develops, shifts and evolves. He is interested in how we inhabit our cities and the use of the space that surrounds us, and how architectural visions of the future could help harmonise society or tear it apart. James Winter has exhibited extensively in London and won the British Art Fair Prize in 2009. He lives and works in London.

We Will Say Goodbye to Everything by Geoff Diego Litherland

Nancy Victor is delighted to present We Will Say Goodbye to Everything, a solo show by Geoff Diego Litherland, from Friday 12 April to Monday 29 April 2013

In this exhibition, Litherland presents new elements to his ever- expanding alternative universe in the form of octagonal paintings alongside laser engraved maps and fictional explorers.

Litherland combines traditional genres of painting with the surrealism of science fiction and the fantasia of abstraction. Through paint and carefully guided compositions, parallel worlds are carefully composed and constructed, setting a tone that questions human perception and relationship to nature. The work inhabits a post-apocalyptic world where nature is a mirage, being supported in a very tenuous way, offering a sense of an ecological disaster.

Space Ship Earth, (window 4) I was Here, 2013

Geoff Diego Litherland is a Mexican born artist based in London and Nottingham. Having spent his early years in Bolivia and Ecuador he moved to England and graduated from Falmouth College of Arts in 2002 with a first class honors degree in Fine Art Painting and completed an MFA at Goldsmiths in 2012.
The exhibition runs until Monday 29th April. On Thursday 25th April we will be open until 9pm as part of the Fitzrovia Lates initiative.

Samuel Bassett: Rutting with the work experience kid

We are delighted to present the long awaited return of Samuel Bassett to London. Bassett had his first solo show with Nancy Victor six years ago in the old space on Charlotte St. The show hosts a collection of recent paintings, drawings and prints exploring split personalities and multiple personas.

Night Fishing Down Gwidden, Mixed media on panel

Fragments from memory, snippets of conversation, daily occurrences and personal reflections play a vital role in the inspiration for the works. Through play Bassett juxtaposes collected figures, text and landscapes, thrown together to create a new open ended dialogue. The result is visually rich and engaging, underpinned with a dark sense of humour.

Together in You, Mixed media on panel

Riding Dads head to School with Pez, Mixed media on board

Really Upright, Mixed media drawing

Vigorous and prolific in his output, Bassett states that: “Focusing on one painting in isolation would feel as though I was running on just one artery. Working over many pieces at once enables me to constantly adapt the work in an organic and unmeasured process as fresh thoughts, approaches or ideas develop.”

Born in St Ives (1982) Samuel Bassett went on to study at Falmouth College of Arts and The Arts Institute Bournemouth. He currently lives and works in Cornwall where he founded LETH Projects, a curatorial platform for emergent arts in Cornwall. Bassett is also a participant in the arts collective TAaP and a partner in BUCCA Gallery for emerging arts in Cornwall.
The exhibition runs until Monday 8th April.

Found Memories - Wayne Chisnall

We are delighted to present Found Memories, a solo show by Wayne Chisnall. Being a sculptor, print maker, painter and illustrator allows Chisnall to vary and channel the outcomes when exploring and transforming recycled and found objects into eclectic collections, super curious, super imposing and empowering art works.

The works are made with materials that are steeped in memory and infused with familiarity. Inspired by his precise yet free-flowing sketches, Chisnall's darkly humorous sculptures frequently evolve out of a process-led dialogue between the subconscious and his chosen materials. Allowing the work to rebel and dictate, taking on its own presence. Whilst this process allows for unexpected jumps in the direction of the work, a strong 'organic meets geometric' aesthetic remains.

Mythological sketches are transformed into compelling constructions and organic forms. Detailed instructions alongside these drawings are often left for months or even years before they coalesce into final objects or forms.

The exhibition runs until Monday 4th March and we will be open late on Thursday 28th until 9pm for Fitzrovia Lates. Come join us for a drink and a chat with the artist.
